Successful with Affiliate Marketing

Did you know, that while affiliate marketing just means some extra pocket money for some, it means substantial income for others? Affiliate Marketing (also known as referral marketing) has grown into a huge industry, as more and more companies are selling their products directly - excluding (or to complement) the classic retail channels - with the help of satisfied customers who recommend the product to their friends, colleagues or relatives.

So if you recommend a product, that you are happy with, to your friends and earn some extra money because they follow your recommendation, you could also recommend the product to anybody (everybody) and earn a little more, right? What means "SUCCESSFUL"?

When I had to take my final exam at business school i had to write an essay with the title: "what does 'success' mean to me?"

I don't want to bore you with the contents of my essay - rather I would like to pass this question on to you. What does success really mean to you?

Roughly two decades after this memorable day of writing my essay, I have collected an entire florilegium of experiences in various types of businesses - some of a more and others of a lesser successful nature. However, some of my best successes came by trying some absolutely new things which I had never tried before. Strangely some people believe, that routine, seasoned expertise, long office hours or hard labour are the only means to reach success. OK, we're back to square one as we would need a definition for the term 'Success'.

I personally would define 'success' simply as the achievement of something I set out to realize. In this definition there is no figures and no dates. It is a journey towards something I envision as my goal or destiny. To live successfully to me means to live a fulfilling life. To think of success solely as an income-figure would not do justice to the thrills and valuable learning experiences (yes, even the hard ones) that I meet on the way. However, if the journey turns into an eternal pilgrimage without ever reaching a destination, I might start wondering why I ever took off...

Affiliate Marketing can be a highly successfull way of creative exploration, of generating recurring monetary rewards by allowing a maximum of personal freedom. It can be a wellspring of ever fresh ideas, novel avenues, enriching contacts and increasing streams of income if one knows its proper application. How to do it? Where to get started? What do I need?
